When a bride comes to us with a specific idea or theme for her wedding, our knowledgeable design team absolutely loves working with her to make her vision come to life. This is exactly how we felt working with Kaleigh and Jared on their beautiful wedding invitations, programs and place cards.

Kaleigh wanted the design to reflect the vision she had for her unique garden wedding: vintage and organic. The distressed design complemented by the soft blue and gold tones truly fit the vintage feel she was looking for. To top it off, she used vintage stamps to mail the invitations to her guests! Purple! The Official Trend of 2011!

We've seen it crop up here and there over the last few years, but now that we're nearly halfway into 2011, it's safe to say that purple is here to stay. Paired with almost any other hue, purple always maintains the qualities of richness, timelessness, and class.

But why is it making such a deliberate comeback? Maybe it has something to do with its historical significance. Purple used to be one of the most expensive pigments to make, and therefore was only donned by royalty or high religious officials. Purple evoked a sense of regality, and today it represents posh elegance.

Incredibly versatile, purple complements almost any hue in the color wheel. From silvers and grays to greens and yellows, purple has the unique ability to infuse the entire palate with sophistication. We expect that purple will continue to be in the spotlight for several more years to come!

Traditional with a Twist!

According to tradition and etiquette, wedding stationery will often include a small bit of tissue that sits on top of the main invitation panel. Years ago, when invitations were written by hand with an ink pen, the purpose of the tissue was to protect the wording from getting smudged or smeared. Most brides choose to forego this piece of tradition, arguing that it is old-fashioned and unnecessary. Here's a modern approach to this longstanding tradition. We created a custom monogram to be printed on the translucent overlay, resulting in an invitation that's super chic, but maintains the integrity of a traditional, elegant and classic look. The monogram is then carried through to the insert cards, beverage napkins, thank you cards, favor tags, and so on! No longer boring and overdone, but personal and modern! How refreshing!

We just wrapped up the assembly on Katie's invitations. The groom is originally from Romania, and they love to travel, so they wanted their invitations to have an "international" flair. Small details make a huge impact!

When you think of weddings, what are the first things you think of? Dresses, venues, and FLOWERS, right? Have you ever thought of ditching the flower part and opting for other intimate details instead?? Samantha Darr with SoireeBliss! Events did just that at one of her recent weddings.

The bride chose to go with a more modern approach and opted to not have any flowers – not even a bridal bouquet! Instead, SoireeBliss! used candles, feathers, crystals, and rich details to create a truly intimate setting for the perfect ceremony. Candles lined the ceremony site, and while the couple exchanged their vows, the ushers lit the guest’s candles to symbolize their love and support for the couple. As captured in these photos by Morgan Lynn Photography, you can see what amazing shots are created by such an intimate setting.

Another tip to make your ceremony more intimate: SoireeBliss! used a circular ceremony set-up. The bride and groom’s closest friends and family circled around them as they said their vows. This way, your big day can be viewed from all angles!

These images are proof that even the smallest details can make a dramatic impact on your big day.

Simplify your wedding planning!

Are you recently engaged, trying to enjoy the happy times, but feeling overwhelmed by all the ideas, information, and magazines family and friends have passed your way? Here's an idea from Crystal with Professional Socialites: Tear out your favorite ideas and forget about the rest!

Sit on the floor with all your wedding magazines and when you see a picture of something you like, tear it out! It can be the color, the style of a dress, the favor, or the photo style; whatever drew your attention to that picture...tear it out. Keep all these pictures in a file and once you are done going through all your magazines start organizing and downsizing. Separate the pictures in to groups to organize them for different elements of your wedding. Then, as you go through each group, get rid of the pictures that you've lost interest in and NEVER visit them again. This is the only way to move forward.

You'll slowly start to see your image come together and it will be a lot easier on you and your poor bridesmaids that have been trying to talk you off a cliff and wiping away your tears. Once you see your image, the details will come to you. Etiquette Tips

We all know that wedding invitation etiquette can be a bit over-whelming. Here are a few pointers for you to consider when going over your wording with your fiancé, family, or friends:

When wording your invitation, keep in mind the setting of your ceremony. If you’re tying the knot in a place of worship, church or synagogue, you would use the wording:
“request the hono(u)r of your presence”
If your ceremony is outside of a church, like an island resort, ballroom or mansion, then use the wording:
“request the pleasure of your company”
Of course, these are very traditional styles of wording. Ultimately, it is your decision on how you will invite your guests, so feel free to be creative about how to word your invitation, it’s your day!

A touchy subject for most brides is who to mention on the invitation. Traditionally, you would only put whomever is hosting the wedding (the bride’s parents, or groom’s parents, or even yourselves), but it has become popular to mention parents other than those hosting the wedding. So if you feel like the groom’s parents should be recognized, mention them after your names using “son of Mr. and Mrs. John Dough”. This usually resolves issues of the mother of the groom feeling a little left out.

It is not proper to address your envelopes using a printer or labels. Instead, we recommend addressing the envelopes yourselves to show each guest you have taken the time to personally invite them to your wedding, or search for a local calligrapher to pen the names for you. There are many styles to choose from, and we strongly suggest taking the time to look at the calligraphers samples in person prior to hiring in order to see their unique style and quality. This is also an opportune time to see the setting your envelopes will be temporarily living in. A lot of brides have found family members or friends of the family practice calligraphy as a hobby. This could be a less-expensive solution to addressing your envelopes and what a great wedding gift from Aunt Sue!

A lot of brides mention that they want guests to R.S.V.P. online, through a website. This could cut costs initially, but what about all the uncles and aunts that don’t frequent the computer as much as you do? Ordering response cards and envelopes can be beneficial in the long run, so don’t skimp out on major details like your guest list. It is not good etiquette and could lead to being a giant pain in the long run.

Of course, you can have your wedding anyway you’d like, we just like to mention the little things that keep tradition going. Etiquette can be stressful, but if tradition is a big value for you, you might want to consider some of the things listed above to help you along in the process.

Save the Date Magnets

Often times when you are selecting your save the dates you don't have all the details of your wedding finalized so your save the dates do not have to represent the wedding at all they can represent you as a couple. So make it special and make it fun! This is the time to show your personalities. You can use bold colors to make it really pop, or maybe add a little romance by using softer colors and a bow. It's all up to you.

Magnets are a great idea because your friends and family can put them on the fridge as a daily reminder of your upcoming nuptials. I have even heard that some save the date magnets have been helpful in helping some guests lose those extra pounds following the holiday seasons (gotta look good for pictures)!

Save the Date

Wedding invitations should be mailed at least 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Now, if you are super duper excited to get the word out about your wedding date you can always do a save the date. The save the dates can be sent out at 4-6 months before the wedding and can be done in many ways.

The date of the wedding is obviously the most important piece of information that should be on the save the date. If you are expecting a lot of out of town guests and have reserved a block of rooms at a specific hotel, that information should also be listed. A lot of couples have wedding websites and we all (hopefully) know it’s in poor taste to put that information on the invitation, but on a save the date it’s the perfect place to share the information! So many details of the wedding can be shared on a save the date.
